Our collection of Weya Applique story aprons comes from the Weya region in Zimbabwe. These beautiful, colorful approns are also known as Sadza story cloths. Each piece has been hand crafted and each panel tells a story, hence the name "story cloths". It is likened to folk art because of its deliberate breakaway from the traditional rules of proportion and perspective, but favoring the childlike simplicity and frankness of naive art.
Weya art is uniquely indigenous and therefore mostly depicts Zimbabwean cultural tradition.
Measures approx. 31" x 20" on front with neck and waste wrap.
