The Shoowa people, a small tribe from the kingdom of Kuba, now the Democratic Republic of Congo, have been designing and making embroidered textiles for hundreds of years. With their complex geometrical patterning, these intricate works of art were used in a variety of ways by the Shoowa, as status symbols, dowries, shrouds, religious investments or as a type of currency.
Working with artists from the Congo, each of our pillow covers has been hand woven with shoowa textiles on the forefront and beautiful African dark brown suede leather, with full zipper for closure, on the back of the pillow cover.
